Since the commencement of the Hajj airlifts nearly three weeks ago, the Nigerian Hajj Commission (NAHCON) has shown unwavering dedication, ensuring that almost all pilgrims have been transported on schedule.

To date, NAHCON has successfully airlifted a significant percentage of the total pilgrims slated for this year’s Hajj, showcasing meticulous planning and commitment.

However, this effort is under serious threat due to looming strike actions that could jeopardize the smooth continuation of the airlifts.

Hajj is a highly sensitive and important event for millions of Muslims in Nigeria, and any disruption could have severe implications for their welfare.

The strike threatens to disrupt the lives and plans of thousands of Nigerians, especially critical given the impending closure of Saudi Arabian airspace on June 10, 2024.

Flight disruptions should not be used as bargaining chips, as such tactics are typically seen only in conflict zones or during coups.

It is crucial for union leaders to recognize that the rights and plans of individual citizens must also be respected. The time-sensitive nature of Hajj flights necessitates an urgent and compassionate response.

We earnestly plead with the authorities insisting on airport closures to reconsider their stance. Allowing the smooth passage and airlifting of pilgrims is essential for them to fulfill their religious obligations.

The situation demands immediate attention to safeguard the welfare of the pilgrims and ensure their safe journey to Saudi Arabia.
