The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed its displeasure over the Beninoise Football Federation’s error in playing the old Nigerian national anthem before Monday’s FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Abidjan.

Dayo Enebi Achor, NFF’s Head of International Competitions, stated that the NFF had provided a recording of the new national anthem to the Benin FA authorities during the Match Coordination Meeting on Sunday evening.

“We handed them the recording of our new national anthem, yet they played the wrong one at the start of the match. We strongly protested and insisted that the Super Eagles would not begin the second half until the correct anthem was played.”

The Benin FA authorities eventually played the correct national anthem of Nigeria before the second half commenced.
