Tinubu commended the Labour Party’s ability to reform, mobilize, and secure victory after 14 years, affirming Starmer’s leadership qualities. He also conveyed congratulations to the citizens and government of the United Kingdom, describing the nation as a steadfast model of democracy and a longstanding partner of Nigeria.

Expressing optimism for the future, Tinubu emphasized his commitment to strengthening Nigeria-UK relations in areas of mutual interest, enhancing democratic institutions, and fostering a safer and more prosperous future for both nations.

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi also congratulated Keir Starmer on Twitter, urging him to support Nigeria’s democracy amid current challenges. Obi expressed hope that Starmer’s leadership would improve conditions for UK residents and strengthen bilateral ties with Nigeria.

Starmer’s election as Britain’s new prime minister marks the end of a 14-year Conservative rule, with expectations high for his government to fulfill electoral promises and promote closer collaboration between the UK and Nigeria on key issues like security, education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
