Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has reinstated Philip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo State, months after his removal from office. In his judgement, Justice Omotosho declared the impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly illegal and unconstitutional.

The judge ruled that the impeachment was a gross violation of the Constitution. Alongside restoring Shaibu to his position, the court ordered that his salaries and allowances be paid retroactively from April.
