President Bola Tinubu has expressed his deep condolences to the family of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who passed away on Thursday. Chief Iwuanyanwu, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, was a distinguished businessman and influential politician.

In a statement released by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s Special Adviser, the President extended his sympathies to the Imo State Government, the late Chief’s friends and associates, and Ndi Igbo. “Chief Iwuanyanwu will be remembered for his extraordinary legacy,” Tinubu said. “I pray for the repose of his soul and for comfort to his family during this difficult time.”

Peter Obi Expresses Sorrow

Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has also shared his grief over the death of Chief Iwuanyanwu. In a series of posts on his X handle, the former Governor of Anambra described the loss as profoundly disheartening. “The passing of Mr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, an esteemed elder statesman and President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, is deeply saddening,” Obi wrote. “His death has left all who knew him in mourning. He was a unifying figure dedicated to the peaceful coexistence of our nation.”

Family Announces Passing

The Iwuanyanwu family has confirmed the passing of Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, who died on July 25, 2024, at the age of 82 after a brief illness. His son, Jide Iwuanyanwu, announced the death, noting that Chief Iwuanyanwu was not only the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide but also the President of Owerri Peoples Assembly. He is survived by his wife, Lady Princess Frances Iwuanyanwu, along with many children and grandchildren. Details of the funeral arrangements will be shared by the family in due course.

Charly Boy Pays Tribute

Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has also joined in mourning Chief Iwuanyanwu. On Facebook, Charly Boy reminisced about how Iwuanyanwu was the first Nigerian to support his career. “In 1981, when I returned from the USA with nothing but a dream, Chief Iwuanyanwu unexpectedly met me and gave me $8,000. That generosity was pivotal in helping me establish my brand and my Jankara studio,” Charly Boy wrote. “His belief in me was a profound gift, and I remain forever grateful for his support.”

Charly Boy emphasized that true legacy is reflected in the lives we touch and the impact we make. “Chief, your legacy will live on through the countless lives you touched. I am eternally thankful for your role in my journey. Rest in peace, dear mentor and friend.”
