The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized three petrol tankers in Lagos State that were being used to transport vegetable oil. The agency announced the interception on Wednesday through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that the tankers were stopped in the Apapa area.

In a video shared on the platform, a NAFDAC official explained that the seizure followed credible intelligence indicating that the same tankers used for transporting vegetable oil had previously carried petroleum products. This dangerous practice, the official highlighted, poses a severe public health risk.

“A credible source informed us that the tankers being used to load vegetable oil had also been used for petroleum products,” the official stated, stressing the potential health hazards of such cross-contamination.

NAFDAC acted swiftly on the intelligence, intercepting the tankers while they were being loaded. The trucks have been taken in for further investigation to determine the full extent of the issue.

“Investigations are ongoing, and we have received information that these tankers are linked to Wharf 302 Products and Beverages. The mixing of these two substances in the same vehicle is unacceptable,” the official concluded.
