The Military High Command has dismissed reports claiming the abduction of 150 people by terrorists in Gobir, Sokoto State. In a statement signed by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, it was clarified that the mass killing and burial shown in a trending video occurred in a neighboring African country, not in Nigeria.

General Buba explained that on August 29, 2024, at approximately 5:00 PM, troops from OPERATION HADARIN DAJI stationed at Forward Operating Base Zurmi in Zamfara State launched a combat patrol to dislodge a terrorist gathering in Kwashabawa Village. During the operation, two Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles became immobilized due to the swampy terrain caused by heavy rains.

The statement further detailed that despite efforts to recover the MRAPs, troops had to dismount and demobilize the vehicles to prevent them from falling into the hands of terrorists.

General Buba also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against terrorist attempts to spread misinformation, disinformation, and fake news as part of their propaganda efforts.
