The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended several individuals suspected of engaging in vote-buying during the ongoing Edo Governorship election.

The arrests took place in the Egor Local Government Area around 10:00 am, with operatives detaining three suspects—two men and one woman. However, the arrests sparked protests from some residents, who claimed that the suspects were being unfairly targeted.

In anticipation of election misconduct, the EFCC had previously announced its intention to monitor the polls closely. On Friday, the agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to safeguarding electoral integrity.

“Our operatives have been deployed to monitor the conduct of the elections. We are committed to the attainment of electoral integrity by ensuring that voters cast their votes democratically without any form of financial inducement,” Oyewale stated.

He further emphasized, “Vote buying is a financial crime, and the EFCC won’t allow it anywhere.”
