Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen shone in his first Intercontinental Derby, helping Galatasaray secure a memorable 3-1 win over Fenerbahce at the Ulker Stadyumu Fenerbahce Sukru Saracoglu Spor Kompleksi on Saturday.
The Nigerian international, who recently joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, was named in the starting lineup by manager, Okan Buruk, despite the return of star forward, Mauro Icardi from injury.

Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce entered the match in high spirits, having kept clean sheets in their last three games. However, Galatasaray had different plans. The reigning champions took the lead in the 20th minute, capitalizing on a mistake by goalkeeper Dominik Livaković.
Eight minutes later, Osimhen showcased his brilliance by assisting Galatasaray’s second goal. Rather than heading a well-placed cross towards goal, the Super Eagles striker chested the ball down for former Napoli teammate Dries Mertens, who finished superbly.

Just before the hour mark, Galatasaray extended their lead further when former Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira set up Gabriel Sara, who calmly side-footed the third goal for the visitors.
Fenerbahce’s Edin Dzeko pulled one back with a penalty, but the hosts were unable to mount a full comeback. Although Osimhen was unable to convert the half-chances that came his way, the 25-year-old Nigerian has made an impressive start to his time in Turkey, contributing two assists in his first two games.

With this victory, Galatasaray now sit five points clear of Fenerbahce at the top of the Super Lig table, having won all six of their matches so far.
