Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has emphasized the importance of the 2024 World Mental Health Day theme, “It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,” calling it timely in light of widespread dissatisfaction that often affects mental wellbeing.

In a statement marking World Mental Health Day, Mrs. Tinubu highlighted that many individuals struggle with mental health challenges due to workplace issues. She noted that fear of stigma prevents people from discussing their struggles openly, which could otherwise lead to early diagnosis and better recovery outcomes.

She urged Nigerians to raise mental health awareness and encouraged individuals to seek medical assistance and counseling early. The statement reads:

“Today, I join the world in commemorating Mental Health Day. The theme for this year, ‘It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,’ is timely, particularly in these challenging times when dissatisfaction at work can affect mental well-being.

“Suppressing emotions is often the root of mental health issues. Without the fear of stigma, people would be more likely to share their struggles, leading to early diagnosis and improved recovery.

“With love and support, we can significantly reduce mental health challenges within and beyond the workplace. Let us all commit to raising mental health awareness and encourage early medical intervention. Please be your brother’s keeper for a safer society.”
