One of the passengers, Umar Musa, said the canoe hit a piece of wood in the river, causing panic among passengers.

Some passengers jumped into the water while others, like me, stayed in the canoe and were rescued,” Musa said.

He added that one of the three persons who jumped into the water was found dead and the two others were missing.

Another passenger, Abubakar Shuaibu, expressing concern over the incident, said many passengers wanted to jump into the water when the canoe hit the wood, except for an earlier warning.

He said the driver had earlier advised against jumping into the river.

Nothing had been heard about the bodies of the two missing individuals by the time this report was filed.
