President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has imposed a restriction on the number of vehicles in the official convoys of Federal Government Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Agencies, limiting them to a maximum of three vehicles.

This was disclosed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Thursday.

“No additional vehicles will be assigned to them for movement,” Onanuga stated, emphasizing that the decision is part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to reduce the cost of governance in light of the current economic realities.

In January, President Tinubu introduced measures to cut government spending, reducing the number of officials accompanying him on foreign trips from 50 to 20, and from 50 to 25 for local trips.

The Vice President’s entourage was also reduced to five officials for foreign travel and 15 for domestic trips.

As part of the new directive, Tinubu also instructed that all ministers and heads of agencies are to have no more than five security personnel, comprising four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer. No additional security personnel will be allowed.

Additionally, the President ordered the National Security Adviser to consult with the Military, Paramilitary, and Security Agencies to establish appropriate reductions in vehicle and security personnel allocations.

Compliance with these directives is expected to be immediate, highlighting the urgency of the reforms.
