President Bola Tinubu has asked the senate to confirm seven new ministerial nominees.

Tinubu’s request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Thursday.

Akpabio did not announce a fixed date for confirmation hearing, but said it would be held soon.

The president fired five ministers and appointed these new ones in a cabinet shakeup on Wednesday.

The new appointments were announced in a statement issued by the presidency after the federal executive council (FEC) meeting.

Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu was appointed as minister of state foreign affairs and Jumoke Oduwole was assigned to the ministry of industry, trade and investment.

Nentawe Yilwatda was appointed to replace the suspended Betta Edu as the minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction while Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi was named the new minister of labour and employment

While, Idi Mukhtar Maiha was appointed as the minister of livestock development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata was named as the minister of state, housing and urban development.

Also, Tinubu approved the appointment of Suwaiba Said Ahmad as the minister of state, education.

Meanwhile, Shehu Dikko was appointed as the chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) which will now take over the duties of the now-scrapped ministry of sports development.

Those relieved of their duties were Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, minister of women affairs; Lola Ade-John, the minister of tourism; and Jamila Bio Ibrahim, minister of youth development.

Others are Tahir Mamman was also relieved of his duty as the minister of education while Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo was let go as minister of state, housing and urban development.
