The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, has called on residents and traditional rulers to collaborate more closely with security agencies to ensure a safer Lagos.
He emphasized the critical role of traditional leaders in preventing land disputes and discouraging any form of complicity in violence within their domains.
Represented by DCP Ahmed Lateef from the State CID, Panti, at a one-day security training for traditional rulers in Lagos West Senatorial District, CP Ishola stressed that security is a collective responsibility.

He warned against any traditional ruler supporting individuals or groups that disrupt peace, noting that such actions are counterproductive.
Reflecting on past incidents, Ishola referenced the violence in Abule Oki, which required significant intervention from security forces to restore calm. He reminded traditional rulers of their constitutional authority to assist in apprehending troublemakers and handing them over to the police. He also urged them to maintain close communication with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in their areas, as they are also part of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).
The Commissioner highlighted the persisting security challenges in Lagos West, including the activities of “One Chance” operators and criminal tendencies exacerbated by poor road infrastructure. However, he noted that recent crackdowns on Okada riders had significantly reduced crime rates in the state.
Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, who convened the training, emphasized the importance of both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to addressing security challenges. Representing Lagos West in the Senate, she stated that any effective security strategy must prioritize grassroots engagement and proactive community involvement.
Senator Adebule also gave a progress report on her activities over the past 18 months, including palliative distributions, cash support programs, fertilizer allocations to farmers, and training initiatives in fisheries. She revealed plans to construct a health center in a riverine area between Ojo and Amuwo to improve healthcare access.
The senator further called for continued support for President Bola Tinubu, expressing confidence in his commitment to addressing national challenges. She reaffirmed her dedication to preserving traditional institutions and fostering stronger synergy between community leaders and security agencies for sustainable peace and development.
