In a bid to ease the burden of rising living costs and spread festive cheer, Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, representing Lagos West Senatorial District, on Sunday distributed 1,200 bags of 50kg rice to her constituents across 10 local councils.
The distribution event, flagged off by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, marked the third consecutive year of such an initiative by Senator Adebule during the yuletide season.
Speaking at the event, Adebule emphasized the significance of community support during festive periods. “Today’s event marks the third time we are distributing rice as End-of-Year goodness to constituent families in order to make the yuletide enjoyable for the good people of the Lagos West Senatorial District. I urge all beneficiaries to share this largesse with family and friends to ensure happiness reaches everyone this season,” she said.
She also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support in addressing economic challenges through food palliatives and other interventions. “President Tinubu has been steadfast in supporting National Assembly members to reach out to Nigerians through food palliatives as part of measures to cushion the effects of economic reforms,” she added.
Highlighting her contributions to community development, Adebule mentioned several empowerment programs, including entrepreneurial training, N50,000 grants to 1,000 youths and women, and ongoing capital projects such as classroom construction in Oshodi and a Skills Acquisition Centre in Mushin.
Prof. Yilwatda, in his address, praised the Federal Government’s efforts in mitigating economic hardships and announced plans for transparent conditional cash transfers targeting 15 million households. He further revealed that additional grants and loans would support vulnerable groups, including farmers and small businesses.
As the year draws to a close, Senator Adebule urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and supportive of government policies, emphasizing that better days lie ahead.
