President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of India following the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
In a statement issued by the State House on Friday and signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Singh as a visionary leader whose impact on Nigeria-India relations was profound and enduring.
Dr. Singh, who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. Highlighting Singh’s historic official visit to Nigeria in 2007, President Tinubu noted that the late Prime Minister was one of the few global leaders accorded the honor of addressing a joint session of Nigeria’s National Assembly.

“Prime Minister Singh’s dedication to enhancing the Nigeria-India relationship remains a reference point in the history of our bilateral ties,” the statement read.
President Tinubu commended Singh’s role in establishing the Strategic Partnership between Nigeria and India during his tenure, a collaboration that continues to thrive, fostering political and economic growth for both nations.
The President further lauded Singh’s efforts to advance cooperation in diverse areas, including defense, trade, culture, education, health, science and technology, and ICT.
Recognizing Singh’s leadership during challenging global economic times, Tinubu praised his role in steering India’s economic reforms and expressed gratitude to the Indian people for celebrating the life and legacy of their former leader.
“May the late Prime Minister’s selfless dedication to service inspire the people of India,” President Tinubu concluded.
