The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has approved higher compensation rates for passengers affected by flight cancellations or delays within member states.
This decision was announced in the final communiqué of the ECOWAS 66th Ordinary Summit, chaired by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

The summit addressed the negative impact of high air transport costs on the region’s aviation industry and its broader economic integration goals. Recognizing these challenges, ECOWAS leaders adopted a supplementary act to the regional common policy on aviation charges, taxes, and fees.
This policy adjustment aims to mitigate the effects of elevated air transport costs and promote growth within the aviation sector, enhancing regional connectivity and economic collaboration.
