Kenya and Uganda strengthened their cultural and diplomatic ties on Thursday as Presidents William Ruto and Yoweri Museveni joined Azimio leader Raila Odinga at the Piny Luo Cultural Festival in Siaya County.
The annual event celebrates Luo heritage, drawing leaders and participants from across the region.
President Museveni, the chief guest, was welcomed at the Kenya-Uganda border in Busia by Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi. His presence highlighted the strong bonds between the two nations.
The festival, which began on December 31, 2024, features various activities, including traditional songs, dances, boat racing, and wrestling.
The event culminates in a friendly football match between Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia and Uganda’s Kitara FC.
The Piny Luo Festival serves as a platform to celebrate and preserve the rich traditions and history of the Luo community. It brings together dignitaries, community leaders, and citizens to honor their shared culture while fostering unity and collaboration.
