Zimbabwe’s Minister of Defence, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, has traveled to Mozambique to represent President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the inauguration of President-elect Daniel Chapo. The event, a landmark in Mozambique’s political history, has attracted several African leaders celebrating the country’s democratic progress.
President Mnangagwa is currently on annual leave, and Muchinguri-Kashiri’s presence reflects Zimbabwe’s dedication to fostering regional solidarity and cooperation within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Zimbabwe and Mozambique share a historic relationship dating back to the liberation struggle when Mozambique provided critical support to Zimbabwe’s freedom fighters. Over the years, their partnership has grown stronger through trade, security collaboration, and cultural exchange.
President Chapo, set to become Mozambique’s fifth leader since independence in 1975, is expected to drive development and deepen regional ties. The event underscores the unity and shared aspirations of the two neighboring nations.
