A recent coordinated operation against Lakurawa terrorists in Sokoto State’s Gudu Local Government Area has resulted in significant losses for the Nigerian military.
Five soldiers were killed during the intense firefight, which also saw six terrorists neutralized by troops of the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Brigade.
The operation, part of Operation Fansan Yamma, led to the recovery of several items, including four AK-47 rifles, 160 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one box of 12.7mm ammunition.
Despite the success of the operation, the military acknowledged the heavy cost of the lives lost.
Lt Col Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, emphasized the importance of public cooperation in safeguarding lives and maintaining peace in the communities.
The military urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to terrorism or security threats in Gudu LGA and surrounding areas to security agencies.
This call to action highlights the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region, as noted by the Minister of State for Defence, who commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their efforts in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, and Kaduna States.
