General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, has made a dramatic return to the social media platform X, just a week after deactivating his account.
The 50-year-old army general announced his comeback with a simple “I’m back!” post, which quickly amassed hundreds of followers.
True to form, Gen Kainerugaba’s return was marked by a series of controversial posts, including threats to “shake up this world!” and warnings to opposition figures.
He sparked outrage by threatening to behead Uganda’s leading opposition figure, Bobi Wine, and ordered security agencies to arrest anyone wearing military-style uniforms.
Gen Kainerugaba’s increased involvement in politics has raised eyebrows, as it goes against military protocol. Critics argue that his social media statements are inappropriate for a serving soldier and have reignited debates about his ambitions to succeed his father, who has been in power since 1986.
In his latest posts, Gen Kainerugaba also threatened to deport a US diplomat for failing to salute him, sparking concerns about his views on diplomacy and international relations.
