The Zamfara State House of Assembly has taken a significant step by declaring the seat of Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South Constituency, vacant.
This decision was made due to Kagara’s prolonged absence from legislative activities, having attended only 21 out of 180 sitting days.
The motion to declare Kagara’s seat vacant was presented by the Majority Leader, Hon. Bello Muhammad Mazawajje Tsafe, and seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Gummi. Several members supported the motion, emphasizing the need to uphold legislative integrity and discipline.
However, not everyone was in agreement. Hon. Halliru Abdullahi Kuturu (Zurmi East) urged the House to explore alternative disciplinary measures.
Despite this, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, announced the Assembly’s unanimous decision to declare the seat vacant, citing Sections 101 and 109(2) of the Nigerian Constitution.
In a related development, the Assembly has mandated its Committees on Agriculture and Justice to investigate the operations and current status of the Zamfara State Fertilizer Blending Plant.
The committees are expected to submit their findings within one month for further legislative action.
