A devastating building collapse occurred in the Ikota, Lekki area of Lagos on Tuesday night, resulting in the deaths of at least two adult males. Rescue efforts are ongoing, with fears that more bodies may be trapped beneath the rubble.
The two-storey building, which was under construction, collapsed suddenly, with the cause of the incident still unknown.
Ibrahim Farinloye, coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Lagos, confirmed that five adult males with serious injuries have been rescued and taken to the hospital.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has dispatched heavy-duty equipment to aid in the search and rescue operations.
Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA spokesperson, stated that the agency is working alongside other stakeholders to rescue any remaining victims.
As the rescue efforts continue, officials are warning that the death toll may rise, with more people potentially trapped under the debris.
The incident has raised concerns about building safety and construction standards in the state.
