President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the substantive Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), effective from January 23, 2025, for an initial four-year term.

This announcement was made in a statement issued yesterday by presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga. Aliyu has been serving as the acting Managing Director of the agency since March 2024.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aliyu would use his vast expertise to advance the REA’s mission of delivering reliable electricity to rural communities while contributing to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda on sustainable energy and power.

With over 20 years of experience in energy and organizational development across both the private and public sectors, Aliyu has held significant leadership roles in Nigeria’s on-grid and off-grid power sectors, as well as in water resources and transportation. He previously headed the Project Management Unit at the Nigeria Electrification Project and held senior positions as General Manager of Corporate Services, Projects, and Research, and Deputy General Manager at Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading PLC (NBET).
