Kachallah Bammi Yarma, a notorious bandit leader, has resurfaced in Katsina State, northwest Nigeria, nearly nine years after his conviction.
His return has sparked concerns due to his history of violent attacks, kidnappings, and cattle rustling.
Bammi Yarma was captured in 2015 and sentenced to prison in Niger Republic. At the time, his capture was seen as a major success in the fight against banditry.
However, having served his sentence, he is now believed to have returned to his former stronghold, where he once led bandit groups.
His return has prompted fear among local communities, as he is known to have a stronghold over bandit factions in Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto states. Top bandit leaders are reportedly paying tribute to him, presenting him with firearms, further solidifying his power and influence.
Bammi Yarma’s reputation extends across the Sahel, with reports indicating that even other terrorist factions fear his reach.
His re-emergence could fuel further violence in the already unstable region and escalate attacks on vulnerable rural communities.
