Egypt Sends Mobile Shelters to Gaza Following Successful Mediation

RAFAH, EGYPT - FEBRUARY 20: A truck carrying mobile homes enters through the Rafah crossing on February 20, 2025 in Rafah, Egypt. The fragile ceasefire that began last month between Israel and Hamas has allowed for an increase in aid flowing into Gaza, while some Palestinians have been allowed to cross into Egypt to receive medical treatment. Equipment and materials needed for Gaza's reconstruction have also been accumulating on the Egyptian side of the border, awaiting deployment in the rebuilding efforts. Egypt has delivered its first shipment of mobile homes to Gaza, marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing ceasefire agreement with Israel.

According to local media reports, five trucks carrying 15 mobile homes and a bulldozer crossed the Rafah border into the Kerem Shalom terminal, awaiting final clearance for entry into Gaza.

This development comes after weeks of Israel refusing to allow mobile homes into Gaza, despite the ceasefire agreement. The refusal left many displaced Palestinians exposed to harsh winter conditions.

However, mediation efforts ultimately led to Israel agreeing to permit the shelters.

The ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal, implemented last month, has temporarily halted Israel’s military campaign, which has had devastating consequences for Gaza, including nearly 48,300 Palestinian casualties, mostly women and children, and widespread destruction.
