A faction of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has appointed Oladipo Olaitan as its new leader.
Olaitan’s appointment comes after the passing of Ayo Adebanjo, the group’s former leader, who died on February 14, 2025.
Olaitan, a lawyer and former political adviser to Lateef Jakande, a former Lagos governor, will serve as leader in acting capacity until after Adebanjo’s funeral.
He has been a member of Afenifere for over 45 years, serving in various capacities, including national financial secretary and deputy leader.
In his acceptance speech, Olaitan expressed his commitment to Afenifere’s ideals as a socio-political organization and advocate for restructuring and true federalism.
The group also acknowledged Adebanjo’s contributions to nation-building and commiserated with his family.
