EU and Denmark Co-Organize Senior Officials Meeting on Sahel and Lake Chad

The European Union and Denmark co-organized a Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) on the Sahel and Lake Chad region, bringing together 164 participants from various humanitarian partners, donors, and national authorities.

The meeting aimed to validate a shared diagnosis of issues in the region and formulate recommendations for a Ministerial Roundtable.

The SOM discussed key topics, including humanitarian space, fragility, protection, and effectiveness of humanitarian aid. Participants emphasized the need to remain engaged in the region through dialogue and funding, adapt ways of working, and ensure continuity of development activities.

They also stressed the importance of prioritizing the protection of civilians and respecting international humanitarian law.

The meeting concluded with the announcement that recommendations from the thematic discussions would be used to formulate policy commitments during the Ministerial Roundtable on November 19, 2025.
