The Nigerian Senate is considering a six-month suspension for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, following an investigation by the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct. The committee found her in “total violation” of Senate rules.
The proposed suspension, read by committee chairman Senator Neda Imasuen, would take effect immediately, on March 6, 2025. During this period, her office would be locked, and she would be barred from accessing the National Assembly premises.
Additionally, her salaries and those of her legislative aides would be withdrawn.
The Senate is expected to vote on the recommendation. If upheld, it would strip Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of all legislative privileges for the duration of her suspension.
This development comes after Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan resubmitted a sexual harassment petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which was initially dismissed due to procedural issues.
