Rivers State Governor Similanayi Fubara was barred from entering the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, where he intended to present the 2025 budget.
The governor arrived with his entourage, only to find the Assembly entrance gate locked.
According to Assembly sources, the governor failed to officially inform the legislators about his visit and purpose.
However, Governor Fubara claims he notified the speaker, Martins Amaewhule, through a letter and attempted to reach him by phone, but was unsuccessful.
This development comes after lawmakers gave Fubara a 48-hour ultimatum to present the budget, which was previously approved by a 4-member faction of the Assembly loyal to him.
Notably, the Supreme Court has recognized the 27-member faction loyal to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, as the authentic members of the Rivers House of Assembly.
