The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has assured corps members that the newly approved monthly allowance of N77,000 will take effect from March 2025.
During an interactive session with corps members at the Wuse and Garki NYSC Zonal Offices in Abuja, Nafiu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of corps members. He assured them that the new allowance, which aligns with the recently approved N70,000 minimum wage, would be fully implemented.

The increase follows the July 2024 approval of a new national minimum wage by President Bola Tinubu. Previously, corps members received N33,000, a figure set in 2019 after the minimum wage was raised to N30,000.
According to a statement signed by Caroline Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, the approval for the N77,000 allowance was confirmed in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by its Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta. The increase is in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
