Gunmen have attacked a Benue Links bus, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and the abduction of 13 passengers in Benue State.

The incident occurred near the Otukpo Burnt Bricks area in Otukpo Local Government Area on the evening of Thursday, April 3, 2025.

Benue Links Nigeria Limited confirmed the tragic attack in a statement issued by its Information Officer, Johnson Daniel.

The 18-seater bus, which was en route from Makurdi to Otukpo, was ambushed by armed assailants. The driver, Mr. Samuel Agege, and a front-seat passenger were fatally shot during the attack. While the gunmen attempted to abduct the remaining passengers, three managed to escape, and another passenger had already disembarked in Taraku town prior to the incident.

The company has expressed its deep condolences to the families of the victims and extended solidarity to the families of those still in captivity.

Efforts are underway to secure the release of the abducted passengers, with Benue Links working closely with security agencies to facilitate their rescue.

In a separate statement, the Police Spokesperson for Benue State, SP Anene Sewuese Catherine, confirmed the attack and stated that further details would be shared soon.

The authorities are intensifying their efforts to ensure the safe return of those abducted.
