The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has officially unveiled the logo, mascot, and theme song for the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, dubbed the Gateway Games Ogun 2024. The event is scheduled to kick off in the second week of May.
Speaking through his deputy, Noimot Oyedele, during a colourful ceremony held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun expressed the state’s readiness to deliver a world-class sporting event. He called on Nigerians to support and participate in making the festival a resounding success.
The theme song — described as rich in rhythm and spirit — was composed by the talented Bayo Adepetun. Meanwhile, the mascot, created by a team from the Ogun State Ministry of Culture, captures the state’s vibrant energy, cultural pride, and future aspirations.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome you all to Abeokuta, the heartbeat of Ogun State, for this exciting unveiling ceremony,” the governor said.
The Governor welcoming stakeholders including the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Commissioners of Sports from across Nigeria, and members of the National Council of Sports, the governor highlighted the collective importance of uplifting sports in the country.
“As many of you know, the last time Ogun State hosted the National Sports Festival was in 2006. Nearly two decades later, we are back — but this time, we are raising the bar,” he said, adding that Ogun 2024 is set to be the most memorable, inclusive, and inspiring edition yet.

Governor Abiodun assured that preparations are in top gear. Under the leadership of Dr. Kweku Tandoh, Executive Secretary of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), and Chief Bukola Olopade, now the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Ogun State has been working to ensure flawless execution.
“We have made significant investments in renovating existing facilities and constructing new ones that meet world-class standards. These investments will outlive the festival and solidify Ogun State’s reputation as a hub for sports tourism and excellence,” he added.

The governor also praised Ogun State athletes, coaches, and technical staff for their ongoing preparations, assuring them of the government’s full support.
To residents and citizens, Governor Abiodun issued a rallying call: “This is our time to shine. Let us show the warmth, culture, and hospitality that define Ogun State. Attend the events, cheer the athletes, and welcome guests with open arms.”
Highlighting the broader impact of sports, he said, “This festival is more than just a competition — it’s a platform for national unity and a launchpad for young talent. It’s an opportunity for parents to support and nurture future sports stars.”
The governor closed his address with an open invitation to all Nigerians and potential partners: “From May 16 to May 31, the heartbeat of Nigerian sports will be right here in Ogun State. Let’s make it count. Let’s make it spectacular. Let’s make it the best ever. Let’s make it Premium.”
