Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have abducted 10 university students and shot two others along the Benin-Ore expressway in Ondo State.
The students, members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church Campus Fellowship from Rivers State University and Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, were traveling to Babcock University in Ogun State for their annual Easter Convention when the attack occurred.
The attackers opened fire on the bus, sparking chaos and panic, and several students escaped into the bush while two were shot, one of whom is currently fighting for his life after undergoing emergency surgery.
The kidnappers have demanded a ransom of ₦15 million for the release of the abducted students.
The Ondo-Benin-Ore highway has been a hotspot for banditry and kidnappings, with commuters frequently targeted by armed assailants.
Despite repeated calls for increased security presence, abductions have continued unchecked.
