At least 19 people were killed in a suspected bandit ambush and livestock rustling operation in Bauchi state, northeast Nigeria.
The attack occurred early Sunday morning when a local security patrol in Gwana district was ambushed, and civilians from a nearby village were also killed while attempting to flee.
A gun battle ensued between the security team and the bandits, causing multiple fatalities among the vigilante team and residents.
The attackers rustled a large number of cattle and sheep from the district after overpowering the local security team.
The Bauchi police command dispatched operational tactical teams to the scene, recovering bodies of casualties.
This incident is part of a larger wave of violence and kidnappings perpetrated by heavily armed gangs, known locally as bandits, across northwest Nigeria.
