Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for the release of popular rights activist and social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, also known as Verydarkman (VDM), who was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on May 2.

Atiku described the arrest and continued detention of VDM as “another blatant abuse of power” by the Tinubu administration, which he said has made political repression a hallmark of its rule.

Atiku condemned the government’s systematic crackdown on opposition voices, describing it as “disgraceful” and an affront to democratic norms.

He also criticized the EFCC for targeting dissenters and critics while allegedly ignoring allegations of corruption against political loyalists.

The PDP chieftain’s demand for VDM’s release comes amid protests by scores of youths in Abuja, who marched to the EFCC headquarters and demanded transparency from the authorities.
