Egyptian football powerhouse Zamalek have announced the departure of head coach Jose Peseiro by mutual consent, ending his brief tenure at the club following a string of underwhelming results, including a 2-2 draw with National Bank.
In a statement published on the club’s official website, Zamalek confirmed the decision: “Zamalek and Jose Peseiro agree to end the relationship by mutual consent. We wish him the best in future.”

Peseiro, 65, signed a two-year deal with the Cairo-based side in February, shortly after leading Nigeria to a runner-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire. However, his time at Zamalek was marked by disappointing performances across all competitions.

The Portuguese coach came under increasing scrutiny after Zamalek failed to defend their CAF Confederation Cup title, exiting in the quarter-finals to South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC. A further blow came with their elimination from the Egyptian Cup and inconsistent league form that left them third on the table, seven points behind leaders Pyramids.
In his 82-day spell in charge, Peseiro oversaw 17 matches, recording seven wins, eight draws, and two defeats.
Zamalek are expected to begin the search for a new manager immediately as they aim to revive their season and remain competitive on all fronts.
