The Nigerian Army’s Operation Hadin Kai has successfully neutralized several Boko Haram terrorists in a clearance operation in the Sambisa Forest.
According to a statement posted on the Army’s official X handle, the operation took place on May 13, 2025, after aerial reconnaissance identified terrorist positions in Garin Baaba.
The ensuing ground assault led to the elimination of several insurgents and the recovery of bomb-making materials, including bomb containers for Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs) and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), as well as pressure plates. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams safely detonated the explosive materials on-site.
This operation comes amidst ongoing conflict in the region, with suspected ISWAP fighters having launched sustained attacks that forced the Army to abandon its position in the Marte Local Government Area of Borno State on May 12, 2025.
The area has changed hands multiple times, becoming a symbolic prize for both ISWAP and government forces.
The Nigerian Army has been engaged in a brutal conflict with Boko Haram and other insurgent groups in the North East region for over a decade.
