The Nigerian Army has confirmed the detention of Corporal Amina Maidoki over allegations of theft and conduct deemed inconsistent with military standards.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army stated that Corporal Maidoki is currently under investigation in line with military laws and procedures.

“Corporal Maidoki is being investigated for allegations of conduct inconsistent with the core values of the Nigerian Army, including but not limited to theft,” the statement read.

The Army emphasized that Maidoki’s detention follows due process under the Armed Forces Act (Cap A20 LFN 2004), assuring that her legal and human rights are being respected throughout the investigation.

“As a professional institution, the Nigerian Army follows established legal and ethical frameworks. Disciplinary actions are not arbitrary but are carried out in accordance with military laws, and all personnel are entitled to procedural fairness,” the Army added.

Rejecting claims of unlawful detention or denial of legal representation, the Army described such reports as false and aimed at stirring public sentiment.

The military further assured the public, including Maidoki’s family, that it remains open to lawful communication and engagement, provided such interactions do not interfere with ongoing procedures.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to upholding the rights of all personnel, but also insists that no individual is above the law. Any allegations of misconduct must be investigated thoroughly and lawfully to preserve discipline and integrity within the ranks,” the statement concluded.

Updates on the case, the Army said, will be provided as investigations progress.
