A fire broke out at a hotel accommodating 484 Nigerian pilgrims in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, but fortunately, no lives were lost.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) confirmed the incident, which occurred around 12:00 noon Saudi time at the hotel located at Shari Mansur Street.
Thanks to the prompt emergency response by Saudi authorities and the hotel management, the fire was swiftly contained and prevented from spreading.
NAHCON Chairman Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman visited the location, assessed the situation, and ensured the welfare of the affected pilgrims.
He ordered their immediate relocation to a new accommodation and commiserated with them, assuring that the Commission would provide every possible support.
The Chairman thanked Almighty Allah that no life was lost and promised that NAHCON would work with the affected Tour Operators to ensure the pilgrims’ relocation and provision of necessary assistance.
