The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected Nigerian referee Yemisi Eunice Akintoye as one of the 18 match officials for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Akintoye, a FIFA-badged referee since 2020 and member of the Lagos State Football Referees Council, earned her place after a strong showing during a preparatory course held in Cairo, Egypt last week. The intensive training involved technical evaluations, physical fitness tests, and match-scenario decision-making exercises.

At just 30 years old, Akintoye has already built an impressive résumé, having officiated in major competitions including the CAF Women’s Champions League, the WAFU B U-20 Championship, and the WAFU B Women’s Champions League.
The 2024 WAFCON will be staged in Morocco from Saturday, July 5 to Saturday, July 26, 2025.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons, nine-time champions of the tournament, are drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria. Defending champions South Africa’s Banyana Banyana will also be aiming to retain their crown.
