A petrol-laden tanker exploded on Wednesday at the NASFAT U-turn section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, causing panic and major traffic disruptions.
The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident stating that emergency teams, including fire services and FRSC personnel, were already at the scene to manage the situation. However, the number of casualties, if any, has not been confirmed.
According to Florence Okpe, Education Officer for the FRSC in Ogun State, several vehicles near the tanker were affected by the explosion, but rescue efforts were ongoing.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) also verified the explosion, noting that it occurred on the outbound lane of the expressway leading away from Lagos, resulting in severe traffic congestion.
TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said in a statement: “A fallen petrol tanker at the NASFAT turning on the outbound Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has exploded. The fire has significantly affected traffic. Fire service has been contacted, and motorists coming from Lagos are being diverted through Christ Embassy Camp. TRACE, FRSC, and the police are on the ground monitoring the situation.”
Further updates are expected as emergency responders continue their efforts.
