Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, and suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martin Amaewhule have appeared in public together at a funeral service in Rumuepirikom, Wike’s hometown.
The three key political figures have been locked in a political crisis for nearly two years, but their recent appearance together has reignited hope that the crisis may be nearing an end.
The development follows a peace meeting brokered by President Bola Tinubu, which sought to end the lingering crisis between the Governor and his former political allies.
Although no political statements were made at the event, the presence of the three political leaders in one place suggests a significant step towards reconciliation.
Other notable attendees at the funeral service included Senator Allwell Onyesoh, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, and Senator Olaka Nwogu, among others.
The meeting between Fubara, Wike, and Amaewhule is seen as a crucial step towards resolving the crisis that led to a state of emergency being declared in Rivers State three months ago.
