The President of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, Theophilus Alaye, has rejected any single-term deal as a condition for the return of suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Alaye emphasized that Fubara has the constitutional right to seek re-election and should not be pressured by any political actor, including his predecessor Nyesom Wike, into accepting a single term.

The Ijaw youth leader stated that his group would support Fubara’s re-election bid in 2027, adding that any attempt to limit his constitutional rights would be seen as oppression and would not be supported.

Alaye noted that the group has always been a champion of marginalized persons and agitation, and would not sit idly by while Fubara’s rights are infringed upon.

The statement comes against the backdrop of a recent meeting between Fubara, Wike, and President Bola Tinubu, where it was announced that the warring political actors had agreed to work together.

However, Alaye’s comments suggest that there may still be underlying tensions and disagreements between the parties.
