Miss Freda Arnong, a staff member of the Ghana High Commission in Abuja, has died after reportedly being abducted and assaulted under suspicious circumstances on her way to Transcorp Junction in the Federal Capital Territory.
The incident occurred on the evening of July 1, around 7:00 p.m., when Miss Arnong boarded a commercial taxi already occupied by four unidentified men. According to sources within the Ghanaian mission, the vehicle diverted from its expected route, and she was later found unconscious and severely injured along Airport Road.
A good Samaritan discovered her and rushed her to the National Hospital, Abuja, where she received urgent medical attention. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, she succumbed to her injuries on July 7 at 1:52 p.m. Her body has been placed in the hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.
Authorities from the FCT Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department have launched an investigation and are working to identify and apprehend those responsible. The motive and identities of the attackers remain unclear.
The incident has sparked concern within the diplomatic community in Abuja, which is closely monitoring the case.
