Four senators from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), further weakening the opposition’s hold in the Senate.

The defectors include Aniekan Bassey (Akwa Ibom North East), Ekong Sampson (Akwa Ibom South), Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), and Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi (Osun Central).

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced their defection during a plenary session, reading their letters of defection.

This move marks the latest wave of political realignments within the National Assembly.

The APC national secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Senator Chris Ngige, and Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala were among those present to witness the defection.

This development comes as no surprise, given the recent trend of politicians switching parties.
