Ghana’s Black Queens and former champions South Africa will face off on Friday (today) in the third-place match of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.
Both teams missed out on a place in the final after suffering painful semi-final defeats earlier in the week. South Africa were narrowly edged 2-1 by Nigeria, while Ghana fell to hosts Morocco 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in extra time.
The bronze medal match offers both sides a chance to finish their WAFCON campaigns on a high and earn a podium finish after strong performances throughout the tournament.

Ghana’s head coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has charged his team to bounce back and seize the opportunity to leave Morocco with pride intact.
“We had a group of coaches, staff members, and players who were really disappointed, but we’re back on track again and focused on the next game,” Bjorkegren said during the pre-match press conference. “We want to do the best we can to win it.”
His South African counterpart, Desiree Ellis, echoed similar sentiments, vowing that the Banyana Banyana will give their all to ensure they don’t return home empty-handed.
Kick-off is scheduled for later today in Casablanca, with both teams expected to go all out in what promises to be an intense contest for third place.
