Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has paid tribute to the strength and achievements of women and girls of African descent as the world commemorates the International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent, marked every July 25.

In a message to mark the day, Mrs Tinubu praised the resilience and accomplishments of African women and girls, acknowledging the many challenges they continue to overcome.
“Today, I join millions of Nigerians as we commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent — a day that honours the strength, resilience, and courage of African women and girls everywhere,” she said.

“Across the world, women and girls of African descent continue to excel despite facing historical and systemic barriers. We use this day to celebrate you as you take care of your families and continue to shine. I say well done.”
The First Lady encouraged them to stay focused on their aspirations and dreams.
“You have all come a long way. We are proud of your achievements as you continue to embody the African spirit. Long live women and girls of African descent,” she said.
In the spirit of celebration, Mrs Tinubu also extended her support to the Super Falcons of Nigeria as they prepare to take on hosts Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday. She commended their efforts and urged them to bring home the trophy.
