The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its elective national convention will take place on November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
The decision was made at the party’s 101st National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, where it empowered Acting National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagum and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu to inform the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about the convention details.
The NEC expressed satisfaction over resolving contentious issues within the party, demonstrating a new spirit of unity. The convention aims to elect a new set of national officers who will lead the party for the next four years.
A National Convention Committee and Zoning Committee have been approved to ensure a transparent and credible process.
The PDP also plans to take legal action to recover seats of defected National and State Assembly members who joined other parties while still holding their seats.
NEC expressed concern over party members participating in opposition party activities and urged them to show loyalty and commitment to the PDP.
The party’s leadership is optimistic about the convention’s outcome, with Acting National Chairman Damagum stating that the PDP is “waxing stronger.” The convention is expected to be a crucial step for the party in consolidating its strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
