The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a Chinese businessman, Liang Tak You, and an 80-year-old woman, Mrs. Grace Ekpeme, in separate operations across Nigeria.
Liang, a naturalized Malaysian of Chinese origin, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on July 25, 2025, after arriving from Bangkok, Thailand, via Dubai with two suitcases containing 26.10 kilograms of Loud cannabis.
The NDLEA had been monitoring his movements since his departure and apprehended him outside the terminal after allowing him to clear immigration and other airport protocols.
In a separate operation, NDLEA officers in Cross River State arrested 80-year-old Mrs. Grace Ekpeme at her residence in Calabar South, where they found over three kilograms of skunk. Meanwhile, another suspect, Chidi Agbafo, was intercepted along the Epe-Ajah Expressway in Lagos with 21.7 kilograms of Colorado cannabis, portions of which were disguised in moimoi sachets, and 3.8 liters of codeine-based syrup.
The NDLEA also seized large consignments of illicit drugs, including 101kg of Canadian Loud cannabis hidden in canned food items imported from Canada, and 71,000 pills of tramadol, diazepam, and exol-5.
The agency has vowed to intensify efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks across the country, with recent operations conducted between July 21 and 26, 2025, leading to arrests and seizures in multiple states, including Borno, Ondo, Edo, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Gombe, and Kogi.
